THE NEW HERITAGE
Legacy isn't just about where you started, it's about where you're going. Forty years ago, Ming Wang didn't just design clothes; she engineered solutions. She built this brand on resilience, necessity, and the radical idea that a busy woman's wardrobe should work exactly as hard as she does. Ming rejected what was easy in favor of what was right—crafting wrinkle-resistant, machine-washable, unstoppable knits for women who refuse to slow down.
Today, our Lead Designer, Fay, honors that lineage of AAPI excellence by weaving it into a modern vision. We are shifting the perception from historic to modern by showcasing how Fay updates our foundations for the trends of today. It is the perfect balance of history and high fashion; the evolution of effortlessness.
I. THE FOUNDATION: Artistry & Observation
Fay’s creative journey is deeply rooted in her upbringing. Born and raised in China before moving to the U.S. for high school, she first discovered her love for art in kindergarten through drawing and craft projects with her mother. It was these early moments that taught Fay to observe and appreciate the small, everyday details of life.
By high school, Fay knew she wanted to be a designer. She built a strong technical foundation at Otis College of Art and Design, where hands-on experience gave her a deep understanding of garment construction. This expertise allows her to guide a piece from its initial concept and fittings all the way to a finished product. Today, Fay blends this technical mastery with the restraint and subtlety of Chinese aesthetics, bringing a unique, atmospheric beauty to her designs.
II. THE MODERN SHIFT: Refined Ease
For Fay, continuing the 40-year legacy means creating garments that are lasting and well-built. Working alongside Ming has been quietly inspiring, allowing Fay to witness the founder's ongoing discipline and consistency firsthand. Instead of enacting drastic changes, Fay views the evolution of Ming Wang as a natural, gradual shift that follows changing habits and lifestyles.
She honors Ming's original vision by retaining the the brand's core functionality—ease, wearability, and real outfit solutions—ensuring these elements remain the starting point for every modern update. Effortless, packable fabrics are never sacrificed as designs modernize. To serve the woman of today, Fay refines fit, proportions, and styling so the clothing moves and travels seamlessly. Classic elements like engineered jacquards and novelty knits are preserved, while archival prints, patterns, and stitches are thoughtfully reworked.
III. EVOLUTION IN ACTION: Reimagined DNA
This balance of recognizable heritage and fresh design is best showcased in Fay's curated collection of knit pieces that represent the true core of the Ming Wang brand. Fay is particularly excited to share the intricate knit construction techniques found in this edit, where texture, structure, and pattern are built directly into the garments.
The collection features subtle yet impactful details, like crafted trims on tweed jackets that don't feel overworked, and engineered skirts designed to create full, flared volume while keeping the ease of knitwear. By introducing expressive new patterns into versatile sets, Fay has successfully updated the brand's signature aesthetic. Ultimately, her work captures a perfect harmony of high fashion and history, proving that our legacy is about where we are going, not just where we started.
THE DESIGNER'S PLAYBOOK
To further bridge 40 years of AAPI excellence , Fay shares the strict principles behind her design evolution.
- Function First: “Functionality is always the starting point. No matter how the design evolves, it must remain easy to wear, travel with, and live in.”
- Natural Evolution: “As the way people dress and live evolves, the product follows. It becomes a bit more current in how it looks and feels, while keeping what made it work in the first place.”
- Effortless Versatility “We embrace versatility in our tweed jackets and coordinated sets that can be worn as complete looks, but also easily broken apart and styled more casually.”
